bobble FAQs

How does bobble work?

bobble filters use activated carbon, a proven, powerful chemical absorbent. as the water passes over the positively charged carbon surface of the filter, the negative ions of the contaminants are drawn to the surface of the carbon granules, where they remain.

What is bobble made of?

bobble is made from recycled PET that is free of BPA, Phthalates and PVC & is 100% recyclable

What exactly does bobble filter out of a person’s average tap water? Does it filter out fluoride?

bobble filters are super effective at taking out chlorine and organic contaminants from potable water. however, bobble should only be used with potable water, and never where water is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality.

whether fluoride is naturally occurring in the water supply (well water often contains fluoride) or whether the fluoride is introduced in the public water supply intentionally (many cities do this), the fluoride will register the same amount before and after water passes through filter and only under special circumstances will a very slight reduction occur.

How often do you have to change bobble’s filter? What about bobble jug’s filter?

one bobble filter equates to at least 300 bottles of filtered water, or about 40 gallons/150 liters. the same is true of bobble jug’s filter. with daily use, your bobble filter and bobble jug filter should last about 2 months. if you’d like to receive filter replacement reminders every 2 months, sign up for a bobble love account.

How do I activate my bobble filter? What about my bobble jug filter?

before drinking from bobble, fill it with water and gently squeeze a full bobble of water through the filter one time. this will remove any loose carbon. the activated carbon filter requires no maintenance thereafter.

before using bobble jug, soak filter upright in cold water for 12 minutes. after soaking, we suggest running cold water through the filter for an additional 10 seconds to flush it completely. attach calendar ring to filter. rotate calendar indicator arrow to align with purchase month. insert filter into filter basket. screw down to secure filter in position.

How do I fill my bobble jug?

once your filter has been secured into the filter basket atop your bobbl once your filter has been secured into the filter basket atop your bobble jug, place jug under faucet. slowly run cool water through jug filter, taking care to maintain low water pressure to avoid overflow. once bobble jug is full, secure jug lid and enjoy!

Hello, how do I clean my bobble? I assume it can’t go in a dishwasher, but can I clean it with dishwasher liquid?

hello! you are correct, bobble is not dishwasher safe. instead, we recommend hand washing your bobble in warm, soapy water. our bobble brush makes this super easy.

I see some black specks in my water. What are they?

on first use of bobble filters, carbon particles may appear in water, this will reduce with continued use. carbon is a natural substance that can be ingested, so no need to worry.

what’s your water footprint?

we’ve all heard the scary statistics about the future of our planet.  global warming has found a permanent place in our lexicon and recycling bins are increasingly becoming the norm in restaurants and shops around the world. yet despite the ongoing push to “go green,” it’s difficult to truly grasp how much of a direct impact we each have on our environment.

enter: the water footprint. the Water Footprint Network has made it easier than ever to figure out how much water we each use on a daily basis by measuring our water footprint. a water footprint is calculated by measuring “both direct and indirect water use of a consumer of producer” and applying the effect such usage has on the environment. and the numbers are stunning. the water footprint of households in Australia, Italy, Japan, and Mexico measure in at over 500 liters daily, while those in countries stricken with water poverty issues like Rwanda, Haiti, Ethiopia, and Uganda use 15 liters or less every day. the United States has the highest daily household water consumption rate at an astonishing 575 liters per day.

continual high usage of water can lead to other negative side effects on the environment, like increased carbon emissions and polluted resources. so how can you decrease your water footprint? easily.

  • tap it

the greatest irony of single-serve water bottles may just lie in the fact that it actually takes 1.85 million gallons of water to manufacture the plastic bottles before they’re even filled with water for distribution. instead of continuing to contribute to the vicious cycle of single-serve, use bobble. bobble makes it easy to get great tasting water on the go, and one bobble filter keeps 300 single-serve bottles out of landfills.

  • shop smart

did you know it takes approximately 1,800 gallons of water to grow the cotton required for a new pair of blue jeans, and nearly 400 gallons to grow enough cotton for a t-shirt? no matter how good the sale is, that extra pair of jeans just isn’t worth it.

  • green your garden

double check that outdoor faucets, hoses and sprinklers are not leaking water when turned off. find a small leak? simply wrap some electrical or duct tape around the hole and you should be set. fancy yourself a green thumb? place a large bucket outdoors to collect rainwater. when it comes time to water the plants, simply transfer the collected water into a watering can. by using water that is readily available, you can cut your water footprint by approximately 450 gallons a week.

  • eat smart

meats like beef and pork have a much higher water footprint (the production of one kilogram of beef requires 15 thousand liters of water), while fruits and veggies like lettuce (15 gallons), tomatoes (22 gallons), and oranges (55 gallons) leave behind a much smaller water footprint. educate yourself about the water footprint of your favorite foods and edit your grocery list accordingly.

  • engage in discussion

it’s easier than ever to minimize your water footprint and there’s no better way to spread awareness than discussion. engage in dialogues with your friends, family members, and peers about the green changes you’ve made in your own life and encourage others to look into ways they can minimize their own footprint.

best,

bobble

bobble is 2!

it’s been 2 years since bobble became a part of this world, and my, how we’ve grown. since bobble’s first steps into filtration, we’ve grown to a family of bottles, jugs, and accessories.

it all began in 2008 with husband and wife Richard and Stephanie Smiedt. the pair had been developing products in Asia and were overwhelmed by the amount of waste they were encountering on a day to day basis. fields of factory waste were piled high throughout the countryside, breathtaking in both size and horrific smell. it was then they decided they had to do something about it.

What's the difference between the small water bobble and the mini bobble, proportion wise? Other than the mini is for kids. It says they both hold 13oz/385mL. Are they the same size?
Anonymous

hi! the small bobble and mini bobble are both the same size (13 oz/550mL). what makes them different? well, the small bobble comes with a standard filter colored filter, much like the two larger sizes (18.5 oz and 34 oz). mini bobble comes with a tri-colored filter (your choice of wiz bang, dribble, hopscotch and lollipop) and four kid- friendly stickers to let children personalize their version.

“bobble Santa!! I know him!!!”

‘twas the week before Christmas, when all through New York.
all the people were hustling, between school and work.
soon it would be time to take a break,
and prepare for the holiday give and take.

the shoppers were bustling throughout the streets,

with visions of bargains, and prices to beat.

however, many had given up on their holiday cheer,
and forgotten what they had once felt about the season, so dear.

when out on the street there arose such a clatter,
and shoppers turned to see what was the matter.
away from their iPhones, they looked up so quick,

tore out their headphones, stopped their Blackberry click-click.

a man drew ever closer, a red-suited chap,

drinking from a bottle with a filtered sport-cap.

“who could this be?” they asked, answer unclear,

but of course, it’s bobble Santa, with a sack of bobbles so clear!
