in celebration of the NEW VICTORY Education Programs, bobble recently took part in the New 42nd Street Gala, an event honoring the Australia Council for the Arts with a NEW VICTORY Arts Award. the annual event featured a special performance by the Melbourne-based Australian troupe Circus Oz at The New Victory Theater, followed by a dinner reception at The Liberty Theater. the event was co-chaired by Adelina Wong Ettelson, Sarah Jessica Parker and Fiona Howe Rudin, Chairman of The New 42nd Street. honorary Chairs for the event are Deborra-Lee Furness and Hugh Jackman. bobble provided an in-kind donation of bobbles for dinner guests.

college students need internships. we get them for all different reasons - to make money, to get out of the house, to not be a supermarket cashier for the sixth summer in a row. but the main reason anyone really wants or needs an internship is to get “experience,” hopefully in the field you’re aiming to go into. some internships claim it won’t be the cliché get-your-boss-coffee internship and then by the third day your “experience” turns out to be picking up donuts and coffee. this didn’t happen at bobble. we accomplished real work with real people for real reasons. we gained experience in not only marketing, but every aspect of the company.

while you report directly to one bobble team member more than others, you are not confined to only one mentor. the bobble team is a close group of 12 employees. you get to have the chance to work with everyone in all areas of creative, product development, media, events, web, marketing, finance, and administration. we went to creative meetings to understand packaging and design, to status meetings to see where the business is now and where it’s going in the near and distant future, and public relations meetings to understand branding. we were able to experience how all aspects of running a business work.

the summer activation program was our own department, so to speak. your job as a bobble intern is important because you are not merely assisting others on their work, but creating a program that only exists through the interns. each week we would scour the internet, social media accounts, and issues of AM New York to find where some of the most populated events were taking place. we would then stock the bobble bikes and head to the events by way of the city bike trails, exchanging free bobbles for likes on Facebook, follows on Twitter, and pictures on Instagram. we had the freedom to not only pick our targets, but also come up with our own solutions for the company. for example, noticing it took a few minutes sometimes for people to find our social media links on their smart phones, we designed a sign complete with QR codes for easier access.

there were times when we were riding the bobble bikes, walking through parks on a beautiful day to scope out the best water fountain for our next chalking event, activating bobbles for galas, or just meeting amazing people on the street that want to make water better, that we couldn’t help but think what a great gig we have.

of course not every day was a walk in the park. there is so much only experience can teach you. it took a few wrong turns and subway stops before we could travel the city with expertise. we had a couple of events we were very excited for, ready to give away over 50 bobbles, only to find out only 10 people were there. after this, we learned to check out what the attendance for events were in the past weeks or years. we found maps online locating all the park water fountains in the city, and graphs showing high traffic lunchtime areas. we learned to allot 30 more minutes than expected when heading to public storage to allow time for elevator traffic. after getting caught in a thunderstorm, we learned watching the clouds can sometimes be better than watching the weather channel. making mistakes were not our favorite part of the internship, but we learned the most from them.

working at bobble was an eye-opening experience. you never think to appreciate the products you own, or truly understand what goes into creating a brand or a product. it was hard work but we had a great time. we realize we’re lucky to have had such a great internship and are deeply appreciative for the opportunity to make an impact in the company and the world around us. the idea that hundreds of people now know about bobble because of us feels great. the fact that thousands of water bottles are being saved from the environment feels even better.

we all know that bobble makes water better, but sometimes even the best water needs to be kicked up a notch. this summer we’re taking our bobble jugs and infusing them with some flavor.

bobble’s step-by-step guide to infused water

1. fill your bobble jug to the bottom of the filter basket

2. remove filter basket from your bobble jug and twist out your bobble filter. set filter aside.

3. place your fruit or vegetable slices into bobble jug.

4. replace filter basket (without filter) and lid.

5. chill bobble jug in refrigerator for 2 hours to let fruit fully infuse with the water.

6. serve water over ice. enjoy!

try your hand at some of our favorite combinations: mint and lemon, cucumber and mint, lemon and lavender, and strawberry.

note: we recommend drinking your infused water the same day that it is prepared, as leaving some fruits or vegetables in the water for an extended period of time may give the water a bitter taste.
